Meissen became world-famous with the discovery of the 'white gold' in nearby Dresden in the early 1800s and the production of some of the world's finest porcelain.

Nowadays it is also popular for its rare and highly sophisticated wines, which are grown on the banks of the Elbe river.

You’ll be greeted from far by one of Meissen’s most famous landmarks - the majestic castle Albrechtsburg, which thrones high above the picturesque river valley.

During a visit at the State Porcelain Manufactory you will have the unique opportunity to watch some of Europe’s greatest artists in porcelain painting and sculpturing at work.

Afterwards you will discover interesting history of Meissen and you will the feel romantic atmoshere of the old town by strolling through its dreamy lanes or by sampling its excellent wines.

A visit to Dresden to see its baroque architecture and to enjoy a guided walk through the breathtaking Zwinger will be the last but not least highlight of this day along the Elbe river.
